Photography project for Laxey businesses

Laxey Commissioners, along with the Manx Heritage Foundation, are supporting a project that will photograph and interview businesses at the end of March. This is an exciting major venture that will provide a valuable document for the future and a publicity boost for Laxey businesses. Shops and businesses are requested to visit the website for the project at laxey2012.com and complete the questionnaire prior to the fieldwork taking place , probably on 29-30th March.

Village Rate for Financial Year 2012/2013

The Village rate will be held at165p in the £ for next year.

However Isle of Man Government hasannounced that charges for tipping domestic waste at the EFW Plant will rise by14%. This will result in the current £120 charge per property being raised to£123.

Christmas Tree Recycling.......

......Residentsof Laxey may deposit their Christmas Trees for recycling at the designatedpoint on Glen Road (betweenthe two tennis courts) until Monday 16^th January 2012. The trees will then be shredded and used for mulchin the village amenity areas.

The Commissioners would like to wish all residents a Happyand Prosperous New Year!

Office Opening over Christmas & New Year

Commissioners' Offices will be open from 0730 hours to 1000 hours on Wednesday 28th December, Thursday 29th and Friday 30th.

Christmas Refuse Collections.......

........will be as normal throughout the festive period. Please ensure that as many item as possible are recycled, particularly glass, steel/aluminium cans, paper and plastic bottles.
There are Bring Banks at the following locations:

New Inn Car Park, Shore Road Car Park, and Glen Road Tennis Court Car Park.Paper, light card, steel and aluminium tins and glass lass can be recycled at all these sites. Clothing/textiles can be recycled at Shore Road Car Park and Glen Road Tennis Court Car Park. Plastic bottles can be recycled at Glen Road Tennis Court Car Park.

It’s Official...Laxey is the Best Village on the Isle of Man!

Laxey has won the award for the Best Town/Village in the annual Isle of Man Tourism awards. The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Mount Murray Hotel on Wednesday 30^th November 2011, the nominations in the nine different tourism and hospitality sectors came from both residents and visitors. The Commissioners Chairman, Jeff James and Vice Chairman, Glen Pearce White attended the event and were delighted to accept the award on behalf of the Village.

Waste Disposal Charges to increase by 14%

The Minister has approved an increase of 14% on the cost of waste disposal commencing 1st April 2012. The charges will rise from £30.74 per tonne to £35.00 and will add approximately £2,650.00 to the annual budget of the Authority.

Snow and Ice - Salt

Residents are reminded that the Department of Infrastructure is maintaining free supplies of salt at all Civic Amenity Sites for those persons wishing to treat their drives and paths in cases of snow and/or ice.
